For many centuries the wolves of the earth had lived in seperation. They formed no packs, living only with another to raise a family before departing ways with mate and young for good.
For food they would hunt alone.
For shelter they would sleep alone.
Battles were fought for themselves, not others.
That changed.
The creators of the earth did not like this seperation. They wanted wolves to run together, in packs.
Fenrir, the gaurdian of the underworld devised a plan that the ruler of the sky, Varg, liked.
So for several weeks both gods worked together, flooding the earth with sleet and hail, striking the trees with lightning.
Fire and flood drove the wolves into hiding, forcing them to come together and protect each other.
At first they fought, but their hunger weakened them, and all they could do to survive was huddle for warmth in the rain, or push eachother onward when the fires came close.
Each group ended up in places safest from what seemed to chase them. Still even after traveling together turmoil still existed between the wolves, used to hermit life.
Unfortionatly they were all so weak and hungry that they could not catch prey individually. They had to work together to take down deer and elk, or trick rabbits into another wolf's jaws. They were forced to work together, and eventually bonds were formed.
The gods were pleased. In their victory they went down to name the packs.
Varg went down to the first pack and deemed them Golden Sunlight. Instantly they were filled with goodness in their hearts from his omnipotent presence.
Fenrir at the same time went to another pack and deemed them Moonlight Shadows. Just the sound of his rumbling growl filled each wolf with vengence.
Both gods fought about this, that the wolves should not be so greatly influenced by one god or the other. So they both agreed to visit the two other packs together, deeming them Misty Valley and Rugged Boulder. As the gods suspected they were not greatly effected by either side, aligned to both instead of one.
